A Dozen Ways to Increase Your Monthly Income

extra income Feb 15, 2019

Zig Ziglar said, “Money isn’t everything, but it’s right up there with oxygen.”  That may bring a smile to your face because it speaks the truth in a funny way.  We need money to live on this planet, at least most of us do.  And if you are reading this, you may need just a bit more to make ends meet, just like I did when I was a young mother.  No one likes having more month than money.  So, we’ve collected a dozen really great ways to pull in some extra cash for your household.  We hope you like them and if you have more, something that we have forgotten, please feel free to post it on our Facebook page or email us.  We would love to hear from you and would like to keep adding to this list for our readers.  Thank you in advance!

Here are a few easy ways to increase your monthly income.

  1. Freelance Writing: Are you comfortable with writing?  Why not give freelance writing a shot?  It’s attractive because it’s usually done on a per task or project basis.  It does require a little flexibility but it can earn you some extra cash to add to your account.

  2. Rent Your Car Out: If you’re a stay-at-home parent who doesn’t use their car much, why not rent it out for a fee?   There are websites such as turo and zilok where you can literally rent your vehicle out to others to earn cash.  Who knew?

  3. Uber or Lyft: Everybody is doing it.  Everybody is groovin’ it.  Maybe not everyone, but becoming a driver for Uber or Lyft can earn you some quick cash and you set the hours.  All you need is a valid driver’s license, having a clean driving record, and having a reliable vehicle.  You can even deliver for grocery services or fast food for even more income.

  4. House Sitting: If you are single, this works best for you.  Also, if you enjoy pets, even better.  People all over the world are looking for reliable house sitters and pet sitters.  There are quite a few websites on which you can gain employment.  However, most people want someone single and without pets of their own and those who are willing to do a little work keeping up the property, maintaining the household, and often feeding the pets.  Getting paid for watering some plant or collecting the mail is a really sweet gig if you’re a loner.

  5. Private Tutor: You don’t have to be brilliant to be a tutor.  You just have to be good and passionate about the subject you are teaching.  Spanish speakers, I’m talking to you!  This little side gig can earn you a fairly significant hourly wage.  Go to schools, libraries, and universities to inquire about opportunities or even post an ad online or on Craigs List yourself.  List your expertise.  Have a few references handy.  Also, before going into any strange home, do your due diligence and let someone close to you know where you’ll be.

  6. Rent Out Your Things: On occasions, those possessions of yours can help add-on to your income.  Check out websites like Zilok (again, love this site!), SnapGoods, Loanables, or Craigslist to rent things out.  You can rent out just about anything; your appliances, power tools, bicycles, extension cords, and hundreds of other possessions.  You are limited only by your imagination.  Warning: legally, someone can sue you if they get hurt on your bike, so download disclaimer forms to have people sign before you lend dangerous items out.

  7. Subletting or Rent a Spare Room on Airbnb: I love Airbnb!  I actually have a business using their service as well as a few others.  You can make some extra money if you have a spare room to rent out or you can rent your home out while you are on vacation.  I like Airbnb because they grab government IDs so you know who you are really renting to.  Plus, they have a million-dollar policy on your rental if you use their service.

  8. Selling Your Handmade Goods: Are you crafty?  My sister is and she sells her items on Etsy all the time.  Why don’t you think about selling the stuff you make, too?  Sign up for accounts on websites like Esty and Zaarly to earn cash for your creativity.

  9. Pet-Sitting and Dog Walking: If you love animals, you’ll love this money maker.  Hundreds of people travel every day and they are looking for someone who loves their little fur babies to take care of them.  There is a massive opportunity  Plus, you get to earn money while hanging out with some cute animals.

  10. Trading Services or Doing Gigs on Fiverr: I also use Fiverr. I have a few people that I use quite often.  You can hire people to do all kinds of jobs starting at just $5.  You can sell your services there, too.  Just log in and take a look at the variety.  It’s really amazing and a great way to earn some extra cash.  Be careful, though.  There is a timeline in which you will have to finish, so if you have little ones, make certain you have some time without distraction so you can get your work done.  As far as trading goes, you can try babysitting your hairdresser’s child and get a free haircut in return.  Again, use your imagination!

  11. Working in a Local Stadium or Concert Venue: This is one of the amazing ways to boost your income that can be fun, too. Though some positions are volunteer-based, they still come with a payoff of seeing a show or game you would have had to pay to watch.  Sometimes, though, there are paid positions and you still get to watch for free.  Check it out.

  12. Housecleaning or Home Organizing: If you like to clean, might as well make money at it. Sell your services online or market yourself to Airbnb Hosts in your area.  I know I am always looking for great cleaning services to clean my properties for around $50 and be able to do it within an 11 AM – 3 PM  You can get some really steady work doing this.

Hopefully, I’ve given you some great ideas to earn some extra cash so you can get your emergency savings fund rolling or just pay off some debt.  I guarantee a few extra dollars a month in your account can make you breathe easily and sleep like a baby at night.  I wish you success in any one of these you choose.

Here’s to living Debt Free!
